In,<a href="http://totallygonzo.org/2008/10/31/preview-stream-of-the-gonzo-tapes/"> The Gonzo Tapes: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. His perspective is logical and his composure is calm. The Gonzo King Of Cool.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">"I've been pushing it for awhile... about 10 years now... 15, or 20 and, I'm not looking for the end, but, I'm not that worried about it either. I've had a good time, and... I've made a few points. I don't know if that really justifies doing... kill-crazy things, or suicidal things. If I really thought it was suicidal, I wouldn't go back in. But, the fact is that it's... not safe. There are a lot of people who know the situation better than I do, would call it suicidal. They've all left and admitted they didn't want any part of a suicide orgy. I don't think many of the people over there do, though I'd say there's an easy 10 or 20 percent, who welcome it for reasons their own. I don't know those reasons. I sort of like my life, and enjoy it. But I've come this far, and it's my story, and I blew the last one over in Africa, and I think... it all has relevance to me. Which means going right back into the eye of the storm. According to the bio on their <a href="http://www.myspace.com/watainofficial">My Space page</a>, "Watain performs Black Metal in it's original form; dangerous, passionate, sinister and magical. Drenched in blood, swept in mystery, shunning no sacrifice. You have been warned." Vocalist and bass player, Erik Danielsson, proclaims, "the Black Metal we want to inspire people to produce, if any, must be built upon the pillars of chaos, madness, lawlessness and boundless darkness! Fuck the world and its futile currents, and let’s make art that is timeless and world-less!"<i> </i>and the band succeeds in their mission. The darkness and the power in Watain's sound is magic to behold. Listening to the songs on 2007's landmark, <a href="http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/watain-sworn-to-the-dark">Sworn To The Dark</a>, you can't shake the feeling that this band is tapped into some supernatural phenomena. <div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw3UeNrghWENNwKubZnTRZcQr40MqegA8ZNCwZL5E3Qg2Bzubtxc37de_MQXoOTeEIUiQhQbtfWZUhADUZn9MyHPLBDBsqftRLaeBRZTXNMSG_lZ5_BxDU9MpljfbfHNAHKSeqvTdqNn8/s1600-h/watain-erik1%5B1%5D.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw3UeNrghWENNwKubZnTRZcQr40MqegA8ZNCwZL5E3Qg2Bzubtxc37de_MQXoOTeEIUiQhQbtfWZUhADUZn9MyHPLBDBsqftRLaeBRZTXNMSG_lZ5_BxDU9MpljfbfHNAHKSeqvTdqNn8/s400/watain-erik1%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5391693095427761714" /></a><i>"I believe that black and death metal originally comes from a place that very few of the people involved in this kind of artform know about or have been intentionally in contact with, and some bands along the way during the 20 years that this form of music has existed have been in touch with that place, or whatever you want to call it, and, we are one of them. After years in the game, the members of Death Crisis have obviously concluded that the only direction to go with their sound is straight into the fire. Screaming over the bedlam is the commanding voice of Alberto Jurado. His animated vocal delivery is rabid and melodic, carried with urgent ferocity like some insane mexican soldier in a cinematic bloodbath. </div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpwWHsAsEt0ML-LsG6Q57y0eyyen6C4KdpFJzbGwkkYqDr5ZAzDLQrcLWc274_9XRUHm4IiajIYybp_bgIpVrwuPgqde4PQZSmlLLmoRRA1b9bKumT2FHZ2R5oifQRARAL7dh9ghwn92s/s1600-h/l_a33ac83c10ad4b6a863630e9cf832df9.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpwWHsAsEt0ML-LsG6Q57y0eyyen6C4KdpFJzbGwkkYqDr5ZAzDLQrcLWc274_9XRUHm4IiajIYybp_bgIpVrwuPgqde4PQZSmlLLmoRRA1b9bKumT2FHZ2R5oifQRARAL7dh9ghwn92s/s400/l_a33ac83c10ad4b6a863630e9cf832df9.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379704003292081218" /></a></div><div>There is also a heroic element to his persona that shines in the momentary calm between songs throughout the band's 16 minute live set, as demonstrated in his oratory prelude to the song, "<a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/131543315/37a95b0e/01_Broken_Spirit.html">Broken Spirit</a>", in which he reminds the audience that no matter how self-destructive our lives can become, that each of us has the ability to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off, as long as we believe in ourselves, as he points out, "Remember, you are all gods." In Spanglish, Jurado spews socio-political venom with conviction, warmth, and tongue-in-cheek delivery. His character shifts effortlessly from sage to madman to comedian. It's this honesty and authority in his presentation, coupled with the voice of an all-time great punk singer, that seals the deal with <a href="http://deathcrisis.com/">Death Crisis</a> and demonstrates to the audience the undeniable truth that they are in the presense of masters.</div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtGQdmORJYTTImExhz0JznniUQWR9N5PjqH5bUGotX5lurS-XKhhIcghx7DV68A_be7N3iPCViON2xSzSnvHw7du8mRtyTgn_fSSfpD_lBSTfCm3hyphenhyphenaYi1KvUZgHTIPgIaqTwmYWhuLcI/s1600-h/l_c181015be8e14aa1b6aa557696adfde7.jpg.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtGQdmORJYTTImExhz0JznniUQWR9N5PjqH5bUGotX5lurS-XKhhIcghx7DV68A_be7N3iPCViON2xSzSnvHw7du8mRtyTgn_fSSfpD_lBSTfCm3hyphenhyphenaYi1KvUZgHTIPgIaqTwmYWhuLcI/s400/l_c181015be8e14aa1b6aa557696adfde7.jpg.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379704506305848946" /></a></div><div><a href="http://deathcrisis.com/">Death Crisis</a> encourages the sharing of these six songs I've ripped from vinyl for your listening pleasure. It started when my file host, who had boasted to me once about his "virtually unlimited bandwidth" suddenly pulled the plug on access to my hosted uploads, essentially derailing a years worth of tedious construction of PTSD. It was just the kind of shit luck that left me aggravated and found me without the motivation to keep the ball rolling. The only brief moment of blogspiration I've had in this period of inactivity was my homage to <a href="http://posttraumatic.blogspot.com/2008/12/kim-wilde.html">Kim Wilde</a>. I really felt like I didn't want to continue PTSD without first going back and fixing all the defunct links from previous entries dating all the way back to my first posting, which took a backseat to my multitude of other interests and hobbies.<br /><br />Well alot has happened between then and now, both with my own musical endeavors and my continued discovery of artists who are doing it right and compelling me to share my interests in them.<br /><br />On that note, since last October, I have been playing bass in the New Orleans Punk-Power-Thrash quartet, <a href="http://myspace.com/ahanging">A Hanging</a>. There's no denying the band has been gaining impressive momentum in the Nola hardcore punk and metal curcuit, in just a few months time having shared stages with the likes of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/eyehategod">EYEHATEGOD</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/goatwhore">GOATWHORE</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thezoroaster">ZOROASTER</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/evilarmy">EVIL ARMY</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/deadbird">DEADBIRD</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/ritualkiller666">RITUAL KILLER</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/haarpnola">HAARP</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/hawgjaw">HAWG JAW</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/tirefire504">TIREFIRE</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/devilandthesea">THE DEVIL AND THE SEA</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/fleshparade">FLESH PARADE</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/stvitus">SAINT VITUS</a>.<br /><br />In January we were filmed alongside Louisiana's heaviest bands for a feature length documentary about the thriving insurgence of heavy music in the south entitled, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/slowsouthernsteel">Slow Southern Steel</a>. The next week we rented a van and headed up to Little Rock, ARK, the hometown of SSS producer "C-T", to play with his band, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/rwake">RWAKE.</a><br /><br />In January we self-released our debut cd, "Food For Rats" and have since completely sold out of the first run of 1000.<br /><br /><object height="344" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4iLQ7XNpNEg&hl=en&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4iLQ7XNpNEg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="344" width="425"></embed></object><br />A Hanging "Food For Rats"<br /><br /><object height="344" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9lIIJzRzAY8&hl=en&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9lIIJzRzAY8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="344" width="425"></embed></object><br />A Hanging "Blood And Spit"<br /><br />I created a youtube channel under the nom de guerre, <a href="http://youtube.com/user/atomicdruid">Atomicdruid</a>, and there you will find an extensive<br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E98207CECB811FD3">video playlist</a> of A Hanging live videos, as well as videos from my past bands, <a href="http://myspace.com/battalionofsaints">Battalion Of Saints</a> and <a href="http://myspace.com/toricobras">The Tori Cobras</a>.<br /><br />Much more to come I promise.Billy Druidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04451814525974447887noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985880760409617263.post-2034701790550585382008-12-19T13:36:00.000-05:002008-12-19T13:41:03.659-05:00Kim Wilde<img src="http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/2046/quimguaildur9.jpg"><br /><br />A perusal of links to bands associated with providence hardcore legends, <a href="http://myspace.com/dropdead">DROPDEAD</a>, eventually led me to the myspace profile for Kim Wilde. I was 12 years old when I bought her platinum debut known for the smash-hit, "Kids In America", a joint composure by her brother, Ricky, and father, Marty Wilde. Kim Wilde could quite possibly have been the catalyst for the growth of hair on my balls In those restless nights of post adolescence, her uber-sweet voice would lull me to sleep from the turntable and I would dream of Kim, Debbie Harry, and Joan Jett engaged in a rock n' roll catfight for my affection.<br />Kim, who resides in London with her husband and their two children, still has a knack for making perfect pop songs and you can listen to her current work at her <a href="http://www.myspace.com/officialkimwilde">MySpace page</a>. <br /><br />Hearing "Kids" again on this youtube clip literally sent goosebumps up my back. Enjoy.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hWZqllm3mQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hWZqllm3mQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>Billy Druidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04451814525974447887noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985880760409617263.post-61880607509436336832008-05-23T11:07:00.023-04:002009-06-26T16:16:13.772-04:00Pop Ear Infection<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi_mKqchGH1ltyeraz39ofgRtdRygEnomhneUx_jI3YTJKDkDfoGRnFTKV8w8fr3SUgqe3Per1E-P6EvYsmQ2FauWdLWHqTy4SxcjG5ptUnS_XtcS8b-1NE5uKqmEHwggrh_ErxqdvDY/s1600-h/pipettes3.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5207561215181082770" style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqi_mKqchGH1ltyeraz39ofgRtdRygEnomhneUx_jI3YTJKDkDfoGRnFTKV8w8fr3SUgqe3Per1E-P6EvYsmQ2FauWdLWHqTy4SxcjG5ptUnS_XtcS8b-1NE5uKqmEHwggrh_ErxqdvDY/s320/pipettes3.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Even though "pop" is such an ambiguous term, marred by the stigma of it's association with commercialized music, I must admit that I am a sucker for a good pop song. <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/id/67001">Avril Lavigne</a> is a "pop" singer, and she's horrible. Complete rubbish. But then, there's that <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Pop%20Candy/fergie-london%20bridge.mp3">London Bridges</a></span> tune by <a href="http://www.myspace.com/fergie">Fergie</a> that I can't get out of my head. Commercial "pop" music permeates our society at every turn and lulls the insipid consumer with it's homogenized hooks and melodies. Like television, Top 40 pop music has a tranquilizing effect on the public. It is the exact opposite of food for thought.<div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">DON'T THINK! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal;">(Rock and Roll, Man!)</span></span></span><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>But that's that <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">other</span> pop music. Not at all like the melodic zeal of a song like, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Ramones/misc9_03%20Do%20You%20Remember%20Rock%20%27N%27%20Roll%20Rad.mp3">Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio? </a></span>by <a href="http://www.ramones.com/">The Ramones</a>, or the lily-white melodies of <a href="http://www.cardigans.com/">The Cardigans</a>. The kind of pop music I'm hooked on is pure, catchy, and un-pretentious. At times, it is the stuff of guilty pleasures. Yes, sometimes these simple songs are so perfect in their formulae that their appeal crosses over to the mainstream, and they truly become <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">popular</span>. It's inevitable, and no matter how betrayed we feel when the little groups we adore break free from the underground, secretly we can't help but root for them in the hopes that one day they might tip the balance of the popular music's vapid state in favor of music with spirit and originality. But seriously, FUCK THE RADIO, and have a taste of the candy my ears have been sucking on;<br /></div><div><br /></div><div><img From The French QuarterOnce again it's been awhile since I've posted anything. I was in a living situation that wasn't condusive to the kind of relaxed environment I require to work on this thing. But I'm in my own apartment now in the french quarter and I'm happy to be relaxed here and sharing some sounds I'm digging.<br /><br /><img src="http://a750.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/17/l_e5dee9c992b1227b56e06d437af95e3d.jpg"><br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/thesess">The Sess</a>, <i>Agendumb</i><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/singlescreenrecords">Single Screen Records</a><br /><br />Holy shit this is one powerful work. These guys are not pulling any punches and have given us an album that is a rollercoaster ride of aurally delicious garage hooks, technical twists and turns. This is rock and roll as a weapon. The guitar and bass melodies are jumping out my tiny desktop speakers like an army of bees and wasps. I cannot wait to hear this shit loud on a car stereo or on the sytem at the club. I imagine it sounding like The Who at Pearl Harbor. If the world doesn't blow up in 2012, this record could go down in history as one of the best punk records ever.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/The%20Sess/02%20Sheep%20City.mp3">The Sess-Sheep City Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/The%20Sess/06%20Mary.mp3">The Sess-Mary Mp3</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/methymeth">Statutory Triangle</a>, <i>Cajun Moments</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/photos/rhodes.jpg"><br /><br />Statutory Triangle skullfuck you with fucked up punk ju jitzu that sounds like Marc Almond on meth backed up by an alien with blasts of psych-damaged, freight train electronic drumbeats. They play soulful, unpretentious, humorous, romantic, low-fi garage rock and roll that harkens back to the good old days of boogie woogie rockabilly and punk. I could try and go off on a tangent about them but I really don't have much to write other than they're awesome and I'd like to share their awesomeness with you. With the constant flux in residency, finding people to play in a band with has been difficult, to say the least. In lieu of having a solid band I continued writing songs with my home recording gear and played all the instruments, guitar, drums, bass, vocals, keyboards, percussion, etc. myself. The result is <a href="http://myspace.com/atomicgospel">Billy Druid's Atomic Gospel</a>.Two of the Songs are covers, Rod Stewarts's <em>Maggie May</em> and three songs by the late, great, <a href="http://myspace.com/cranfordnix">Cranford Nix Jr.,</a>Pray For The <em>End Of Time, Pawnshop,</em> and <em>Spiders and Snakes</em>. These songs are demos that were recorded in every corner of the country over the last five years. He told me New Orleans needs me. I felt the call pulling me south and began planning my exodus. It took a few months of work and travel back and forth between New England and San Diego, but I made it happen. A few days before Halloween I packed everything I had in my Chevy Corsica and left Boston on a mission to find my new home. I ended up in New Orleans, the Magic City, the Big Easy, Chocolate City, the only place that makes sense.<br /><br />The talent pool in New Orleans is very impressive. Neurosis fucking slayed. They were simply awesome. Absolutely mind blowing! They sounded like a bleeding, dying, planet earth. It was pure, sonic-lava-overflow. They've honed their multi-media assault into an epic experience. They played a wide selection of songs going all the way back to Souls At Zero and pretty much totally crushed. I watched a quadroplegic guy that was totally entranced by their show slowly force his way through the thousand-plus crowd and make his way to the very front where he received a lapdance from a pretty punk sprite for his efforts. It was beautiful. Afterwards, Muscle and I looked at eachother and asked, <em>"What The Fuck was that???".</em> Convinced nothing could parallel Neurosis's show, we stumbled into Beerland in downtown Austin and caught an epic, spaztic performance by Milwaukee's <a href="http://www.myspace.com/holyshit">HOLY SHIT!</a>, and they lived up to their name. Again we asked, <em>"What the fuck was that???".</em><br /><br />I joined <strong>MC Trachiotomy's Moments</strong> and played a party at Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat's Spellcaster Lounge. I've got a lineup in the works for my <a href="http://myspace.com/atomicgospel">Billy Druid </a>project. I'm playing with<strong> Chad Booth</strong> (ex-<strong>Cajun SS</strong>) and <strong>Matt Muscle</strong> in a reunited <strong>Mangina</strong>. Here's some info/explanation on their self imposed exile from the indie scene. After the cease and desist case with the Cock Ready ep, the Cuda's have been in a mental/artistic schizo-phrenia haze that has upended their radical approach to Southwest art noize. There dabblings with the SDPD and various county school boards has also limited there influence around the southwest. They have simply lost all sense of right and wrong because of others interpretations of their art. As most of you know, the Cuda's have never been ones to take themselves seriously but when others dub the 'terrorism' card on certain bandmembers....lives become exilic in nature...fear from the repurcussions of supporting causes that are no different than the principles of democratic humanism, etc, etc.....They have tried there best to get a show in SD...but to no avail. Apparently, the blackballing of bands that support social justice/amnesty/peace/drugs is rampant in California's last bastion of religio-conservatism. As you know, San Diego is one of the most militarized cities in the world therefore citizens of SD find themselves in a precarious situation. We are on the frontlines of a bogus immigration debate, not to mention the seriousness of a failed war policy (as if any war can be justified, right?). Let's keep both Republicrat's out next term. Rumor has it that Andy Flame will be running under the Movement for a Free America Party in next years El Cajon County School Board runoff. Dner is also actively recording tunes for various social justice movements (he even squeezed in a classic Clash cover "Know Your Rights" with nelly furtado and the dixie chicks). Traci Haze has been running a childrens' clinic for abused children. Commotion is also the co-director of a breakfast program in LA that feeds the homeless. Dirty is currently a juror in a highly classified priest-boychild rape case. The finishing touches are being mounted onto their next release "pure commotion" and should be out on swami records later this year. We'll keep you posted, gene the jean adams<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOGiNSsfpFQ3LWHt4MR3HpC9ERg1TeizYpuB6vWWOyOiV4so_eK0vqPJHGQzwqd1HOBjtej1UCwLwC_4qvA4r75spEgy_kZGKoWUPFdYKXVdhi5n8ltwfOahgIZLso9icTVCF2y8oAxPA/s1600-h/cudas01.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5125321623015569010" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOGiNSsfpFQ3LWHt4MR3HpC9ERg1TeizYpuB6vWWOyOiV4so_eK0vqPJHGQzwqd1HOBjtej1UCwLwC_4qvA4r75spEgy_kZGKoWUPFdYKXVdhi5n8ltwfOahgIZLso9icTVCF2y8oAxPA/s320/cudas01.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><strong>Sunday, August 27, 2006<br />NOTES OF GNARLY DODE</strong><br />Good Morning Friends:Caught myself in a morning daydream here in the Cayman Island town of Croix and decided to let you in on some magic. Converge is not heavy metal, hardcore, metalcore, thrash, death, puke, whatever. They go beyond the realm of genre and push the envelope of heavy music till it bleeds out your ear drum. Quite possibly the most urgent noise in the universe. They sound like a melee between a rabid wolverine, a wildcat, and a jackhammer. Or an exorcism. They deliver this sonic carnage with uber-tight chops and demented riffage that makes Black Flag sound like The Knack.<br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/converge/converge_10%20Lonewolves.wma">Lonewolves Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/converge/converge_14%20To%20the%20Lions.wma">To The Lions Mp3</a>Billy Druidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04451814525974447887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985880760409617263.post-56101479173688730392007-10-02T16:56:00.003-04:002008-12-09T03:58:22.224-05:00Enjoy These Perfect Songs<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_oGmGtYeSudjBNj7aufRlH5yVXcaViOrCKiQCkdk002nmqqph_nyh4AMlVGB4ePLBaDhk-pBP9xaUWPFFgRTgB006i4hIeeqGH1CcA1GkpnD9r6s7t9iq8jCWaqiv0v3s3OGkp2hr-C4/s1600-h/guided_by_voices_0803.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117399365399529282" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_oGmGtYeSudjBNj7aufRlH5yVXcaViOrCKiQCkdk002nmqqph_nyh4AMlVGB4ePLBaDhk-pBP9xaUWPFFgRTgB006i4hIeeqGH1CcA1GkpnD9r6s7t9iq8jCWaqiv0v3s3OGkp2hr-C4/s200/guided_by_voices_0803.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/15%20Guided%20By%20Voices%20-%20Motor%20Away.mp3">Motor Away Mp3</a><br />It was 1996 when I found a tape in my car and popped it into the ancient mono cassette player I used for an audio system. I was blown away. The sounds emanating from the player sounded like they were recorded by ghostly angels in another dimension. The low-fidelity of the tape device only added to the surreal quality of this recording. Chock full of hooks and melodies, this collection of genius, 1 minute songs, is pop music with true-grit, no fluff. 11 years later, I still feel <a href="http://www.gbv.com/">Guided By Voices</a>, <a href="http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,207495,00.html">Alien Lanes</a>, is one of the greatest albums ever made, and <a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/15%20Guided%20By%20Voices%20-%20Motor%20Away.mp3">Motor Away</a> is possibly the best song on this timeless record.<br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117405270979561314" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn4BnmceJlQxThlELiTxJuM0WHHSk2xn4D9KWwJBsijfrwOQFydxHUM93SkgjojZ-T9InznzdG90Tux7NThXyFKGvlIuiQw13qF8cz-xN3TaVhXYB-o4mLxMClD4v030ad9z76WvGpCd0/s400/88173359_l.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/The%20Soundtrack%20Of%20Our%20Lives/The%20Soundtrack%20Of%20Our%20Lives%20-%20Nevermore.mp3"></a><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/The%20Soundtrack%20Of%20Our%20Lives/The%20Soundtrack%20Of%20Our%20Lives%20-%20Nevermore.mp3" style="text-decoration: none;">Nevermore Mp3 </a></span><br />File under: <span style="FONT-STYLE: italic">Songs To Get Divorced To</span>.<br /><a href="http://www.tsool.net/index/index.htm">The Soundtrack Of Our Lives</a> epic 2001 release, <a href="http://www.popmatters.com/pm/music/reviews/26966/soundtrackofourlives-behind2/">Behind The Music</a> put simply, is the masterpiece that gave us the beautifully melancholy, <a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/The%20Soundtrack%20Of%20Our%20Lives%20-%20Nevermore.mp3">Nevermore.</a> This is the stuff of pain, triumph, and tragedy.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/stuff_2-09%20Faster.mp3"></a><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/stuff_2-09%20Faster.mp3" style="text-decoration: none;">Faster Mp3</a></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhayrGFuwSfn3yhUD1ZDpgODIYmc5tRiz_CzFbpr0Y5ZLHuQReQL8Vg6ivdRAkEOfVFe2TxbKDWld8cmfDpF5McVELbfhgdlh9E_gv0dtpbo9IiZ9DxYggumljnmD2gwhb7hJjA4nI9nhI/s1600-h/manics.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117609458019780498" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; CURSOR: pointer" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhayrGFuwSfn3yhUD1ZDpgODIYmc5tRiz_CzFbpr0Y5ZLHuQReQL8Vg6ivdRAkEOfVFe2TxbKDWld8cmfDpF5McVELbfhgdlh9E_gv0dtpbo9IiZ9DxYggumljnmD2gwhb7hJjA4nI9nhI/s200/manics.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />When I first heard <a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/stuff_2-09%20Faster.mp3">Faster</a>, by the <a href="http://www.manicstreetpreachers.com/07/index">Manic Street Preachers</a>, it was like sonic gold for me. I felt cheated when I'd discovered this band had broken up years before I'd even heard them. Drugs and the major label blues drove this band to an early demise. The members had all grown up together, forming their first group, <span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">The Ignobles</span>, while attending "the prestigious D.C. private school the St. Albans School, which counts former Vice President Al Gore among its alumni." In 1993 they formed Jonathan Fire*Eater. In 1995 they released their self titled debut on Third World Underground Records, followed by a self-titled EP on the PCP label. 1996 saw the release of the five song, <a href="http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,254621,00.html">Tremble Under Boom Lights</a>. I'll cover this amazing work in more detail at a future time, I promise. They played a tight blend of punk and glam, reminding me of early Motley Crue, Slade, Cheap Trick, and Motorhead. Their songs were very catchy. I chatted with singer, Jocke Berg, and the guitarist who simply goes by the name, Silver after their show and found them to be very down to earth and friendly. Unfortunately that night they had no merchandise for sale or I would have bought the cd that most of the material in their set that was from, <a href="http://www.dailyvault.com/toc.php5?review=2193">Bad Sneakers and a Pina Colada</a>. Instead, I made a deal with Jocke, that if I tracked down his cd and bought it, he would make sure Hardcore Superstar would play in San Diego. I picked up a copy a few days later and, Jocke, San Diego is till waiting for you to grace us. <a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Perfect%20Songs/Hardcore_Superstar_Punk_Rock_Song.mp3">Punk Rock Song</a> is a scorching tune from Bad Sneakers, an album that delivers one perfect song after another.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqEi7szdSWg6pGWCzfGHcUldfryFBs6pLB43xDsMie94M1Pk-5Y9IjGp06PMUJxPw3niAgQc8H7KJiSKuq1WntSPOjJrG_osvrraVcfXnZHCfl_lh60DDnHl5psjc6am8fPX6a97E2UFc/s1600-h/bbabes.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121628707092586514" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqEi7szdSWg6pGWCzfGHcUldfryFBs6pLB43xDsMie94M1Pk-5Y9IjGp06PMUJxPw3niAgQc8H7KJiSKuq1WntSPOjJrG_osvrraVcfXnZHCfl_lh60DDnHl5psjc6am8fPX6a97E2UFc/s200/bbabes.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Backyard%20Babies/Backyard%20Babies%20-%20Look%20At%20You.MP3">Look At You Mp3</a><br />Sweden's <a href="http://backyardbabies.com/">Backyard Babies</a> are like the Olympic Gods of Rock and Roll. They performed and recorded throughout 1983 to 1987, cutting their teeth at underground revivalist venues like the Cavern Club. For a brief time in the early 90s a revamped version of the Hearts formed with Bill Calhoun taking over the position of lead vocals. I might be mistaken, but as far as I can remember, after seeing them play at the Soma club circa '92, Calhoun was this lineup’s only original member. This incarnation of The Hearts was not well received and puttered out rather quickly.<o:p></o:p>For the 25th anniversary of the band’s inception, <a href="http://www.bomp.com/">Bomp</a> has released <a href="http://www.bompstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3429">High Tide: The Tell-Tale Hearts Anthology, 1983-1986 CD.</a><a href="http://www.bompstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3429"><strong></strong></a></p>“They had never seen anything like them in San Diego, and what they saw began to shatter the boring, stultifying sameness of the local music scene into a million pieces. The wild-eyed singer snarled and leapt about like a monkey, all the while shaking a pair of maracas and banging on a cow bell, wine bottle or beer can. The drummer hid behind a relic of a kit and pounded his tom-toms like they were tribal war drums. The tall, red-haired guitarist snaked about on stage, by turns stroking and stabbing at his instrument. The organ player, his hair completely covering his face, kicked at his amplifier and rolled on the ground, wrestling with a harmonica. And the long-haired bass player sneered at the crowd from behind a pair of sunglasses, looking positively wicked. There was certainly nothing on MTV which could have prepared them for this.”<span style="FONT-STYLE: italic">-from <a href="http://www.bompstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3429">High Tide: The Tell-Tale Hearts Anthology, 1983-1986 CD.</a><a href="http://www.bompstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=3429"></a></span><br /><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">On Friday, September 28th at the <a href="http://www.casbahmusic.com/">Casbah</a> in <st1:place st="on"><st1:city st="on">San Diego</st1:city></st1:place>, I witnessed the explosive comeback of The Telltale Hearts. Though her musical path took flight in the late 80s, not the 60s, and she's not really French, she's American. Bilingual, "she often sings in French, using the language not as superficial stylistic whimsy but as a separate palette that extends her possibilities as a lyricist". France considers her their own cultural property.<br /><br />Apparently she was discovered by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Allen Ginsberg</span> and his cohort, avant-garde filmmaker <span style="font-weight: bold;">Harry Smith</span>. You can read the full story, <a href="http://www.aprilmarch.com/am.bio.html">here</a>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfO9k1-NaaEqcDY1_6GBz50G2UIWTcYL9Q2mgVf6_RhmEx6e73I1XOUon6xoccmHaq-Gtr-nAW_Fc-FA9LLuvpql44wFiZcxAe3IfjcyVwps5Wt916ImEJqtU4FC9Z8Te4iTYFblb5ZEM/s1600-h/SFTRI434.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfO9k1-NaaEqcDY1_6GBz50G2UIWTcYL9Q2mgVf6_RhmEx6e73I1XOUon6xoccmHaq-Gtr-nAW_Fc-FA9LLuvpql44wFiZcxAe3IfjcyVwps5Wt916ImEJqtU4FC9Z8Te4iTYFblb5ZEM/s200/SFTRI434.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116261740231968562" border="0" /></a>Upon further investigation, I found Ms. March to have quite an impressive <a href="http://www.aprilmarch.com/am.disco.html">discography</a>. Her first recordings were made in New York in the late '80s using her real name, Elinor Blake, in The Pussywillows. In 1991, she began her career as April March and formed <a href="http://www.sympathyrecords.com/catalogue/pages2/SFTRI421.html">The Shitbirds</a>. She's collaborated with <a href="http://www.sympathyrecords.com/catalogue/pages2/SFTRI514.html">The Bassholes</a>, and <a href="http://www.sympathyrecords.com/catalogue/pages2/SFTRI491.html">Los Cincos</a>, among others, and was the singer for <a href="http://www.sympathyrecords.com/catalogue/pages1/SFTRI370.html">The Haves</a><span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span><span style="font-weight: bold;">. Jonathan Richman</span> has made a rare guest appearance on some of her recordings. She's even recorded with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Brian Wilson</span>. In 1997, April March teamed up with northwest garage prodigies, <a href="http://www.subpop.com/artists/the_makers">The Makers</a>, for the release of, <a href="http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/store/artist/album/0,,312470,00.html">April March Sings with The Makers</a>, on <a href="http://www.sympathyrecords.com/">Sympathy For The Record Industry</a>, and her song, <a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/April%20March/16-april_march-chick_habit.mp3">Chick Habit</a>, is featured in the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Quentin Tarantino</span> action flick, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Death-Proof-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B000N3ST7K">Death Proof</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.myspace.com/aprilmarch">April March's Myspace</a><a href="http://www.myspace.com/aprilmarch"> page</a><br /><object height="350" width="425"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8SlhDmEYhi8"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8SlhDmEYhi8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" height="350" width="425"></embed></object><a href="http://www.chickfactor.com/back/cf12_elinoraprilmarch.shtml">April March interview in Chickfactor</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/April%20March/16-april_march-chick_habit.mp3">April March-Chick Habit Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/French%20Chicks/French%20POP_France%20Gall%20-%20Soyons%20Sages.mp3">France Gall-Soyons Sages Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/French%20Chicks/French%20POP_Sylvie_Vartan_Lami_Des_Mauvais_Jours.mp3">Sylvie Vartan-Lami Des Mauvais Jours Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/French%20Chicks/French%20POP_Chantal%20Kelly%20-%20Caribou.mp3">Chantel Kelly-Caribou Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/French%20Chicks/French%20POP_Jany%20L.%20-%20Les%20Madeleines.mp3">Jany L.-Les Madeleines Mp3</a><br /><a href="http://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Laughter_Then_Violence.mp3">The Makers-Laughter Then Violence Mp3</a><br /><br /><a href="hhttp://www.hosting4beer.com/uploader/files/220/Laughter_Then_Violence.mp3ttp://"></a>Billy Druidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04451814525974447887noreply@blogger.com2
